Any students enrolled in an AP Online Virtual School class must register to take the test with Mrs. Ambas in E238 by March 1st.
Any students interested in taking an AP test, but not enrolled in an AP class, may register to take the test with Mrs. Ambas by March 1st. If you are NOT enrolled in an AP class, you must pay $78 per test or $56 per test if you have free or reduced lunch.
Seniors! Your annual Senior Brunch is a week away. It will be held at Parrot Jungle Island on Feb. 26, 2010. Tickets are $35 and will be sold during both lunches in the student activities office through this Friday, February 19th.
Key Club will meet today (Wednesday February 17, 2010) after school in the F Cafeteria. Key Club's current community service projects include:
Horses and Handicapped where you can volunteer to help disabled children ride horses
Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society Miles for Smiles, a walk-a-thon to obtain free operations for children with facial deformities and Locks of Love where you can donate cut hair to make wigs for children with cancer.
Juniors tickets for the Junior Class trip will be sold today during both lunches in the student activities office for $85 cash only. Only Juniors present for the Science FCAT will be allowed to attend the trip on March 19th. For more information see Ms. Evans in E228.
Miami Dade County Public Schools and the National Association for College Admission Counseling are proud to announce their annual upcoming event – The Miami College Fair. This is a great opportunity for you to gather information about colleges and universities from Florida and around the country and help make decisions about your post secondary plans. Workshops are offered in English, Spanish and Creole on important topics such as financial aid, Bright Future Scholarships, college bound athletes, ACT/SAT information plus more. This event will take place on Sunday, Feb. 21 at the Double Tree Miami Mart Airport Hotel located at 777 NW 72 Ave. From noon – 4:00 PM.
The event is free except for a nominal parking charge of $5.00. Students can pre-register at
www.gotomyncf.com and print an electronic ID for easier access to information.
This is an important and worthwhile event for you and your family to attend and we highly recommend it. If you have any questions or need more information, see Ms. Mathos.
The ASVAB will be given here on Wednesday – April 7 in our school’s auditorium. This Career Exploration Program is open to any
10th – 11th or 12th grade student who wishes to take this interest survey. The exam helps identify careers that a student may pursue in their future based on their personal abilities, strengths and aptitudes related to a vocational or career field.

Don’t miss the MLEC premier of “Love is a Hot Fudge Sundae” and “Go Ask Alice” tonight at 7:30 in the Auditorium. Tickets are only $5 and will be on sale during both lunches and at the box office before the show. Both plays deal with mature themes such as substance abuse and death, and are therefore not suitable for young children.
The African American Club is sponsoring their second annual College / University tour. There is only room for (50) students. It will be based on a first come, first serve basis. Attention, participants for the "Black History Show", there will be another mandatory performance rehearsal in the auditorium on this Friday the 19th at 2:35 pm. Please come ready to perform.
Saturday school will resume February 20, 2010. It will be held from 8am to 12pm, in building E 1st floor. We are offering Reading, Math and Physical Science. We will have Saturday school on the following dates: February 20, February 27 and March 6, 2010.
Students purchase your wristband for MLEC’s Dress Down Day brought to you by your PTSA. Dress Down Day will take place this Friday, February 26th listen for more details, rules, and regulations. Wristbands are $2.
Today I am going to be talking with you a little bit more about the importance of responsibility. Remember that responsibility means thinking before you act and being accountable for your actions towards yourself and others. And this is very important for you to demonstrate at school.
In order to figure out if you are a responsible person, I want you to think about the following questions:
Your answers to these simple questions will help you learn more about yourself. Maybe you feel that you are reliable and dependable, but need to work a little bit harder on using self control when you get angry. Maybe you want to try to think about the consequences of your behavior a little bit more to avoid getting into trouble. Or maybe other people have told you that you never take responsibility for your own actions and you are ready to make that change.
Showing responsibility at school can prevent a lot problems. Strive to be a responsible person and be proud of yourself each day. Make decisions that show that you are a leader that cannot be pressured to do the wrong thing. It starts with you.
When all students show responsibility for themselves, each other and our school, it will be a safe and better place to learn.

Students are reminded to come to school each day on time! Students if you are absent, remember that 5 unexcused absences in an annual course, or 3 unexcused absences in a semester course, will result in a no credit (N/C) for the class. MLEC is in a block schedule, therefore 5 unexcused absences in an annual course WILL result in 10 unexcused absences and WILL result in a no credit being issued, and 3 unexcused absences in a semester course will equal six absences and also result in a no credit. Remember if you are absent you MUST bring a note and receive an admit to excuse your absence. Admits are issued in the Student Services Office prior to the start of school each day and during lunch and after school in the Main Office with Ms. Wellman. Do not be absent unnecessarily.
Students arriving tardy to school must sign in at the Tardy Center. Students with excessive tardies will be required to serve an Administrative Detention. BE ON TIME!!! AND COME TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY!!!
