As part of our Youth Violence Initiative we will be discussing the importance of honesty, today. Most of us have a good idea about what being honest means. A good definition of honesty is a simple one: dealing truthfully with others and always being sincere. But why is it important to demonstrate honesty at school each day?
At school, there are many times throughout your day in which you have to make personal decisions about whether to be truthful and honest or not. Sometimes these decisions are about important things and other times, they are less important. For example, a friend may ask you if you like their new haircut and you may not like it, but you need to be honest in a way that won't hurt their feelings. One thing that you could say that would not be hurtful, but would still show honesty is "I liked your hair better when it was longer".
There are also other times in school that being honest is absolutely necessary. If you see another student doing something wrong at school that may affect their safety and you fail to tell an adult about it, that is being dishonest in a way that can hurt that student and other students. For example, if a student is making threats towards another student and you hear this, you would need to be honest and tell an adult who you can trust. This small act of honesty could protect not only the two students having a problem, but the safety of all students at our school.
Showing honesty at school can prevent a lot of conflicts and avoid problems. As you start this new year, make one of your resolutions to be an honest person who you can be proud of each day.
When all students do the right thing no matter what, always being honest, our school will be a safe and better place to learn.
There is a special anti-violence message for students which will be broadcast to schools on Channel 30. The message is approximately one minute and forty-five seconds long and will repeat every ten minutes from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Please ensure that all students see this important message.
Students are reminded to come to school each day on time! Students if you are absent, remember that 5 unexcused absences in an annual course, or 3 unexcused absences in a semester course, will result in a no credit (N/C) for the class. MLEC is in a block schedule, therefore 5 unexcused absences in an annual course WILL result in 10 unexcused absences and WILL result in a no credit being issued, and 3 unexcused absences in a semester course will equal six absences and also result in a no credit. Remember if you are absent you MUST bring a note and receive an admit to excuse your absence. Admits are issued in the Student Services Office prior to the start of school each day and during lunch and after school in the Main Office with Ms. Wellman. Do not be absent unnecessarily.
Students arriving tardy to school must sign in at the Tardy Center. Students with excessive tardies will be required to serve an Administrative Detention. BE ON TIME!!! AND COME TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY!!!
The Principal’s Word of the Day is
