…And now for a moment in Black History…
On this day in 1927 Sidney Poitier, who was the first African American to win an Academy Award in a starring role, was born in Miami, FL. He broke through as a star in acclaimed performances in American films and plays, which, by consciously defying racial stereotyping, gave a new dramatic credibility for black actors to mainstream film audiences. He won his Best Actor Award for his role in the movie Lilies of the Field.
This moment in Black history was sponsored by MLEC’s Thespians and Drama Club.
TOMORROW IS SATURDAY FCAT TUTORING!!! BE HERE AND GET READY FOR THE FCAT!!! FROM 8AM-NOON.
Students are reminded to come to school each day on time! Students if you are absent, remember that 5 unexcused absences in an annual course, or 3 unexcused absences in a semester course, will result in a no credit (N/C) for the class. Remember if you are absent you MUST bring a note and receive an admit to excuse your absence. DO NOT GIVE YOUR NOTE TO YOUR HOMEROOM TEACHER. Admits are issued in the Student Services Office prior to the start of school each day and during lunch and after school in the Main Office with Ms. Cheron. Do not be absent unnecessarily.
Students arriving tardy to school must sign in at the Tardy Center in the C Cafeteria. Students with excessive tardies will be required to serve an Administrative Detention. BE ON TIME!!! AND COME TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY!!! If you have any questions regarding attendance please speak to Mrs. Forteza in the Student Services Office.
The Principal’s Word of the Day is
TENUOUS (TEN yoo us) adj flimsy; extremely thin
The organization’s financial situation has always been tenuous; the balance of the checking account is usually close to zero.
To attenuate is to make thin. Extenuating circumstances are those that lessen the magnitude of something, especially crime.
