Hispanic Heritage Month
In 1988 Congress approved and each year the President proclaims that the 31 day period beginning with September 15th be nationally recognized as Hispanic Heritage Month. September 15th is the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico declared its independence on September 16th and Chile on September 18th.
During National Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize Hispanic Americans for helping to shape our national character and strengthen our communities. The warmth and vitality of the Hispanic culture are great gifts to America and are part of the unique fabric of our country.
October 14th Miami Lakes Educational Center will have its 5th Hispanic Heritage Show. Any students interested in participating in this show need to attend a special meeting in F207 next week. Auditions will begin Wednesday. Any staff members who would like to be a member of Hispanic Heritage Month Committee please email or send a note to Ms. Corbett-Perdomo as notification of your interest.
