A Moment in Black History
Today in 1950, All-Pro basketball star Julius "Dr. J" Erving, who played for the Philadelphia 76ers, is born in Hempstead, NY. He will become known for his innovative, electrifying slam-dunks that made him one of the most popular basketball players to ever play the game. Also, today in 1989 Col. Frederick Gregory becomes the first Black to command a US space shuttle mission.

Attention All Black History show participants: There will be practice today and tomorrow. Please make the necessary transportation arrangements. The practice will begin promptly after school Tuesday in the auditorium. All performers MUST be present.
Our Black History program will take place this Thursday on the early release day. Teachers a seating chart will be in your mailbox tomorrow morning.
