A Moment in Black History
On this day in 1990 Nelson Mandela was released, after 27 years, from prison in South Africa. He was given a hero's welcome in NY where he will spoke before the United Nations. He was imprisoned for being a crusader against South Africa’s policy of Apartheid.

Administrative
Students, beginning March 7th, the MLEC Media Center will begin assessing fines for over due books. The fine for and overdue book will be five cents per day. As of March 7th, any book that is over due will be begin to accrue a fine of five cents per day. However, next week is “Amnesty Week,” this is our Valentine’s gift to you. Bring your books back no matter how over due they are. Next week is this last chance you have to return any over due books without a fine.
Academic
The National College Fair will be held Sunday, Feb. 20 at the Radisson Mart Hotel from noon - 4 PM. This event is free; however there is a small charge for parking. This is a golden opportunity for students and parents to meet over 100 college representatives from all over the United States under one roof. Don't miss out! Seniors to purchase your ticket, you must check with Ms. Jerome (the school treasurer) to clear any financial obligations.
Juniors, to receive your ring at the ring ceremony, your final payments must be made today. You must contact Herff Jones to make arrangements.
Jaguars, next week is “Sweet Heart’s Week.” So wear that red and white Monday which is Valentine’s Day and don’t forget to order your balloons, flowers, and cards.
Valentine’s Day Balloons, cards, and flowers will be on sale this week for delivery Monday, February 14th. See what the various clubs have to offer during lunch and after school.
Attention all FBLA members, there will be a meeting next Tuesday, February 15th in E113.

National Honor Society is having a meeting next Wednesday, February 16th, 2:40 PM in room E 234.
The MLEC drama department invites you to attend “A Night of One Act Plays” next Thursday, February 17th. Tickets are five dollars. This will be the only show so get your tickets when they go on sale Monday.
Since next week is “Sweet Heart’s Week,” we would like everyone to join in our efforts to support the Tsunami victims. Collections will be taken all next week.
Miscellaneous
Jaguars, there is a teal alert in effect! The baby jaguar has been kidnapped from his crib in the Activities office. No charges will be brought against the kidnapper if he is immediately returned safely.
