A Moment in Hispanic History
Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca: A Spanish veteran who wrote the first book about exploration in the United States. He was appointed as governor of Uruguay due to his courage escaping from the natives.
Administrative
Faculty and staff, there will be a COE/SACS Steering Committee meeting today at 2:40pm in the C-conference room
Teachers, there will be a faculty meeting next Tuesday, September 28th at 2:45 in Cafeteria. There will be a special election for the Teacher of the Year Committee.
Academic
Attention sophomores, juniors and seniors who have taken the FCAT once and must retake one or both sections: The mathematics and reading subtests of the FCAT will be administered Monday, October 4th and Tuesday, October 5th. Any student who has taken the 10th grade FCAT and needs to retake math and/or reading will participate in this test administration. Students will be notified later this week about their testing locations.
FCAT tutoring sessions will be held after school Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday next week from 2:40 until 3:40 in E202 and E214.
All students who had Ms. Jennifer Williams for any Health class may pick up project portfolios and other valuable work left in her classroom. To pick up this work, please see Ms. Williams in A127 or it will be discarded.
Clubs/Classes
Freshmen class officer candidates, there will be a meeting today in E230 at 2:40 to discuss campaign etiquette.

Music Club will have its first meeting today in F123 Mr. Grau’s room.
The Black History Club will have its 1st meeting today at 2:40 pm in E237 with Mr. U. All interested students are invited to attend.
HIV/ AIDS Peer educators will meet next week Monday, September 27th at 2:45 in F118 Ms. Handley’s room.
Chess Club will have its 1st meeting next week Wednesday, September 29th in E237 with Mr.
We will have activities buses every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. You must have participated in an authorized after school activity to receive an Activities Bus Pass and ride the bus. No student may ride the activities bus without a pass. Sponsors, Activities Bus Passes have been placed in your mailboxes if you need more see Ms. Perdomo in F106. Students, if you do not get an Activities Bus Pass from your sponsor, you will not ride the bus. Please fill out the pass and know your regular bus stop. Buses will leave at 3:45pm sharp.
