Mission Statement

The Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing-Toyota Specific program is committed to provide the educational support through the T-TEN Program in order to prepare students for professional positions of distinction in the automotive collision repair industry. Miami Lakes Technical Education Center will strive to meet and exceed the needs of our students, graduates, faculty, community, and business partners by provide innovative and competitive programs while utilizing assistance from Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc., and the Toyota Dealerships in the continuation of the educational and employment process.

Program Outlook

To become skillful at collision repair and refinishing is like acquiring a craftsman-like skill; it takes several years of experience and a lot of intuition to become a proficient collision repair and refinishing person.

Today, by learning the proper fundamentals through a suitable course of study, one can not only master the art of collision repair and refinishing in a comparatively short time, but also learn to correctly troubleshoot and solve the various problems which normally occur in a collision repair shop.

This course was prepared as a training aid to help develop the fundamental skills necessary to become a qualified collision repair and refinishing person.

This course will be useful to those who intend to enter the collision repair trade and to those who are already skilled craftsman and wish to upgrade their training. Overall, the purpose of this course is to strengthen the skills of the collision repair and refinish technician which will improve the quality of repairs and increase customer satisfaction and confidence.

This 1400 hour program prepares students for entry level employment as collision and refinishing technicians in the auto body repair industry. The program also provides supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in auto body occupations. Students are encouraged to join the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) and eligible students may be nominated by their teachers to join the National Vocational-Technical Honor Society.

Length of Program

The average length of the program is 1,600 hours, approximately 14 months, for adults if attending full time. Actual time in class is dependent upon enrollment status, whether you enroll as a full-time or part-time student, and the length of time the student requires to achieve competencies. This program contains several occupational completion points designed to prepare students for various entry level jobs within this occupational area.

Entrance Requirements
  • Application.
  • Interview by guidance counselor.
  • Interview by and approval of the instructor.
  • Assessment in reading, math and language.
  • Must be at least 16 years old and not attending high school.
  • Fees for supplies, textbooks and uniforms, if required.
Program Requirements
  • A.S.E. B-6 Estimating and Damage Analysis
  • Student's Choice of 2 A.S.E. courses
  • ICAR CR 2000
  • ICAR Welding Qualification Test
  • 640 hrs. (2 trimesters) co-op at dealership supervised by Master Tech.

Entrance Dates

This program operates on an open-entry, open-exit basis. Students may enter the program anytime during the school-year. Entrance is dependent upon space availability. Call (305) 557-1100 and speak to a counselor.
