Career Assessment Center

The Career Assessment Center assists students in selecting an appropriate technical program through the use of basic skills inventories aptitude assessments and interest inventories.

Free Internet career assessment testing is available online from various web sites. A list of such web sites is available on our Career Links page.

Counseling and Placement Services

The Student Services Department offers guidance counseling, vocational testing, financial aid, and job placement services. Counselors are available Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Registration area, Building "A".

Placement services are offered free of charge to currently enrolled students who possess the demonstrated proficiency level required for employment. A full-time Occupational/Placement Specialist assists with job placement for all currently enrolled students and former students who have earned a Certificate of Completion. Teachers also assist with placement.

Book Store

The student book store is located in the Building "C" lobby and sells books and materials for the various courses taught at Miami Lakes Educational Center. The Center maintains a cash only policy for the purchase of books and materials.

    Book Store hours:
    • Daytime: 11:15 am to 12:30 pm, Monday through Friday
    • Evening: 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm, Monday through Thursday
    • Special: Special book store hours will be anounced on the school's public address system

Bus Information

The Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Transit Agency provides service to Miami Lakes Educational Center. Detailed information can be obtained by contacting an MTA customer representative. Metrobus routes serving Miami Lakes Educational Center include routes 29, 73, 75, and the "North Dade Connection" route.

Child Day Care

Day care services are available from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for children of employees and currently enrolled students. Enrollment space for the children is limited and registration is required.

The Center's child care facility is operated by the Child Care Center Operations training program.

Food/Dining Facilities

The Commercial Foods and Culinary Arts class welcomes all students and school personnel to eat in the cafeteria located in Building C. The cafeteria is operated in conjunction with the Culinary Arts program. The program is entirely self-supporting and is not part of Miami-Dade County Schools Lunch Program.

Vending machines are available in the student lounge areas of Buildings "A" and "B".

No food or beverages are allowed in instructional areas.

Housing Facilities

The Center does not have dormitories or rooms available to house students; however, private rooms and motels are available in the area. Out of town students must make their own arrangements for accommodations.

Student Health Care

Miami Lakes Educational Center does not have facilities or personnel to render medical assistance. Students with medical conditions which might result in an emergency situation, should notify their instructor and the Student Services Department when they initially enroll.

In an emergency situation, school officials will call Miami-Dade County Metro Fire Rescue. Fire rescue personnel will decide is an ambulance is required. If an ambulance is dispatched, the student requiring medical attention will be responsible for any costs incurred.

First Aid kits are located throughout the Center.

Student Identification Card

A valid MLEC identification card must be worn at all times and must be shown to school officials upon request. The ID card must be presented whenever requesting refunds, when using school facilities such as the Media Center and Student Book Store, or when registering for additional classes.

Student ID cards are obtained by paying a nominal fee of $1.00 per trimester when registering for classes. Lost cards should be reported to the Registration Office immediately. There is a $5.00 charge for ID card replacement. In the event a student is withdrawn, suspended or expelled from class, the ID card must be returned to the Student Services administrator.

Student Accident Insurance

Student Accident Insurance is available to all students registered in classes at Miami Lakes Educational Center. Insurance may be purchased directly from the insurance company by the student. Forms for insurance coverage are available from the Registration Department in Building "A".
