Miami Lakes Educational Center is proud of its student organizations. Each organization is an independent entity and promotes civic and fraternal goals. The following is a list of MLEC student supported organizations.

Distributive Education Clubs of America
In 1946, the Distributive Education Clubs of America organized around an ambitious goal: to improve educational and career opportunities in marketing, management and entrepreneurship for students. In the years since, DECA has remained on the cutting edge of educational innovation, working with the business community to integrate academic achievement with career and technical skills.

The mission of DECA is to enhance the co-curricular education of students with interests in marketing, management and entrepreneurship. DECA helps students develop skills and competence for marketing careers, build self-esteem, experience leadership and practice community service. DECA is committed to the advocacy of marketing education and the growth of business and education partnerships.

Future Career and Community Leaders of America
The Future Career and Community Leaders of America is the FCCLA. Its mission is to promote personal growth and leadership development through education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family members, wage earners, and community leaders. Members develop skills for life through character development; creative and critical thinking; interpersonal communication; practical knowledge and vocational preparation. Students have an opportunity to plan and carry out activities of interest to themselves, their family, their community, and child care.

NOTE: The FCCLA is for high school students only and was formerly known as FHA/HERO.

Health Occupations Students of America
Health Occupations Students of America is a National Vocational-Technical organization for secondary and post-secondary students enrolled in Health Occupations Education. Activities of HOSA are an integral part of the instructional program that provides occupational skills as well as leadership skills. It was officially formed in November, 1976, and is comprised of state organizations under the auspices of the State Board of Vocational Education.

Local HOSA chapters provide programs and activities to help individuals develop their physical, mental, and social well-being. Members strengthen their leadership and citizenship through interactions with professionals, business, and other student organizations.

The Health Occupations Program at Miami Lakes Technical Education Center has three chapters. The chapters participate in local, state and national competitions and have been very successful in their efforts.

National Vocational Technical Honor Society
The Miami Lakes Educational Center’s National Vocational-Technical Honor Society is an honor organization for students enrolled in occupation, vocational-technical programs that are a minimum of 450 hours in length. Its purpose is to promote service, leadership, honesty, career development, skilled workmanship, reward student achievement, encourage and assist student educational and career goal setting, and to promote a stronger linkage between MLEC and business and industry. Candidates must be nominated by their instructors and are inducted each trimester.

Students must have good character, demonstrate academic achievement, exhibit leadership skills, and plan to pursue a career in their field of vocational/technical study.

Phi Beta Lambda
PHI BETA LAMBDA is a national, state, and local organization for students in post-secondary schools and colleges enrolled in business, office, or teacher education programs that develop vocational competencies.

Its purpose is to provide opportunities for college and post-secondary students to develop vocational competencies for business and office occupations in addition to business teacher education. PBL is an integral part of the instructional program which promotes civic and personal responsibility.

Vocational Industrial Clubs of America
Miami Lakes Educational Center sponsors a chapter of VICA/SKILLS USA. VICA/SKILLS USA is an organization that caters to vocational oriented students. Each year VICA/SKILLS USA sponsors a skills Olympics whereby MLEC students compete against other schools in Dade County, the state, and the nation, and eventually compete on the international level.

The VICA/SKILLS USA Club has brought many accolades to Miami Lakes Educational Center.

In-School Chamber of Commerce
The In-School Chamber of Commerce Program supports academic and vocational education programs by providing appropriate training for students in the areas of school-to-work transition activities, international marketing, entrepreneurship, and business process skills. Participants in this program develop leadership skills, employability skills, self-esteem and interact with real-life chambers of commerce.

This is a totally voluntary club formed by full-time students enrolled at Miami Lakes Educational Center.

The focus of this club is to help students:

  • Learn skills needed to survive in the free enterprise community.
  • Learn to take responsibility for their futures and understand that anyone has the chance to become an entrepreneur.
  • Learn employability skills.
  • Learn to maintain records, financial reports, and perform other business activities.
  • Learn the importance of being an involved citizen.
  • Learn how business people volunteer to serve a community, economically, politically and personally.
