FPL Line Specialist  
 
Job of a Line Specialist (Electrical Line Worker)

A Line Specialist is required to stand on utility poles using climbing gear (gaffs, belt and tools weighing up to 35 lbs) for time periods of up to four (4) hours. S/he must possess physical ability to climb various height poles up to 30 ft, and to climb into and out of bucket on a bucket truck, dig holes, and access pits or trenches up to 4 ft. deep with a shovel.

You will operate company vehicles on a daily basis up to an average of 50 miles a day, as well as climb ladders up to twenty feet to make de-energized electrical connections. You will be exposed to daily weather conditions, including some adverse weather, and you may work extended hours beyond the regular schedule of 8 hours per day, 5 days a week.

This position also requires lifting equipment (that weighs between 10 and 100 pounds) up to 30 feet with assistance. It also requires pulling, raising, and lowering equipment (weighing up to 35 pounds) to distances up to 15 feet. Nature of Work

Electrical Line workers spend most of their time outdoors building overheard power lines and/or laying underground cable. Skilled workers maintain these facilities, which include making proper connections and installing transformers and related equipment.

The use and care of tools is an essential part of the worker’s duties. Safety is of prime importance in this occupation. Electrical line workers must be able to lift 50 lbs and perform strenuous physical duties (see Minimum Job Requirements list). They must have strong communication skills and have an attitude of success through teamwork.
