STUDENT GOVERNEMENT ELECTIONS

Miami Lakes Educational Center’s chapter of Future Educators of America has met all of the membership and GPA requirements and is now one Phi Delta Kappa’s (PDK) Internationally Recognized Charter Chapters. We were the third of only five public high schools in Miami-Dade with this distinction. ALL STUDENTS WHO ARE TAKING AN ADVANCED PLACEMENT TEST(S) IN MAY WILL PREREGISTER TODAY AT 1:00 P.M., IN THE AUDITORIM. Any student interested in earning community service hours please see Ms. Collins in the Student Services office. Students, faculty and staff, this evening is our Annual Jag Awards Ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 7PM. We looked forward to seeing everyone this evening as we honor our award recipients. I am participating in the Day of Silence, a national youth movement protesting the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies. My deliberate silence echoes that silence which is caused by harassment, prejudice, and discrimination. I believe that ending the silence is the first step towards fighting these injustices. Rocha. Each of these students has won a $1000 scholarship through the Ford
Salute to Education Foundation with a chance to win a personal computer at the
Ford banquet.
Also, winning a $1000 scholarship is Ms. Julie Udoye. She has been selected as our Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce winner and will attend a banquet this Wednesday – April 11 at their annual education luncheon. Ms. Giselle Serrano has been selected as our recipient of The Miami Dade County Youth Fair Scholarship and will be awarded a $2000 scholarship at her awards banquet on April 19. Ms. Erica Leal has also been selected to receive the Jean Bellamy Scholarship which is awarded to one outstanding female senior who seeks a degree in the business field. Her award is $2500. The team of Yudelkis Gonzales and Kelvin Rojas placed second in the class 3 challenge. While the team of Maria Angarita and Jose Vasquez place 3rd in the static display competition Class 2. Last Thursday, Mr. Kynerd’s class collected $72 in one day to take the lead with Ms. Desire’s class in 2nd Place, and Ms. Gayla Williams’s class in 3rd. Rounding out the top 5 – Mr. O’Brien’s class in 5th, Mr. Bevilacqua’s class in 4th, Ms. Gayla Williams in 3rd, in 2nd Mr. Kynerd’s class and in a dramatic move Ms. Desire’s class collected $105, in just one day to take 1st Place.
