Shirt design voting will take place on Monday, November 24th, 2008 at the Principal’s Patio during both lunches. Bring your school ID to vote!
 
TEACHERS THAT ARE INVOLVED IN THE 10TH GRADE SCREENING, FOLDERS WILL BE PLACED IN YOUR MAILBOXES THIS AFTERNOON.  DO NOT TAKE THE FOLDERS HOME WITH YOU.  PLEASE KEEP THEM IN YOUR MAILBOX UNTIL WEDNESDAY MORNING.  PLEASE ADHERE TO THE SCHEDULE AND INSTRUCTIONS THAT YOU HAVE BEEN PREVIOULY GIVEN AND WILL BE PROVIDED AGAIN IN THE FOLDERS. 
 
There will be a mandatory HOSA meeting today, November 19th in room A127. Seniors must attend for cord information.
 
This is a “shout out” to all students of Miami Lakes Educational Center. The HOSA club will be offering a workshop to learn about diet, exercise and leading a healthy life style. The workshop will be held in Ms. Algaze’s room A127 on Monday November 20 @2:30. This workshop is important for everyone.  Please attend.  Healthy snacks will be supplied.
 
Deadline for all African American Club dues is 11-30-08 at 2:30pm.
 
Once again, The Interact Club is participating in the Salvation Army Holiday Angel network. As such, Interact asks that staff, students, and parents help bring joy to the life of an underprivileged or foster child. Times are hard for in this tough economic situation; but think of the bit of happiness you can bring a child, with one small gift. Please see an Interact club member, or Mrs. Biddings-E202, for more information.
 
There will be AUDITIONS for MLEC's Comedy Show "MLEC NIGHT LIVE" Wednesday Nov. 19th @ 2:30PM in the Auditorium.     Actors, comedians, and writers are encouraged to audition. Also, if you would like to compete in this year's District Thespian Competitions in performance or design you must audition on this date.
 
Sports club has started. It is on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Those students who would like to join stop by the gym and see Ms. Arterburn.

Want to send that someone special a surprise gift?  Does your BFF desire a surprise this holiday season?  Surprise them all with a holiday plushy delivered to their 1st block class!  Plushies come in 6 varieties:  White and Brown teddy bears Santas, Snowmen, Reindeers, and Penguins and are delivered with a candy cane and a personalized card for only $4.  Key Club will be selling these plushies beginning next Monday on a pre-order basis only.  Quantities are limited so buy yours soon!
 
Key Club, Interact, Brandsmart USA, and the Salvation Army have joined forces to Go Green and help needy children across our community at the same time and we are asking for YOUR help to generate the largest "Trash to Treasure" campaign in the history of MLEC.  How can you participate?  Simply bring in your unwanted MP3 players, cell phones, electronic games, game systems, GPS systems, car audio equipment, laptops, cameras, and camcorders to Ms. Biddings' room (E202).  Don't worry if they are used, broken, or no longer is service.  Brandsmart USA will then responsibly recycle them and give us gift cards for them.  Key Club and Interact will them use these gift cards to purchase new electronic games and systems, TVs, movies, etc. for the Salvation Army Angels for Angels children's gift program as well as for the children in His House who have suffered from abuse and neglect.  Receive two community service hours for each item brought as well as the satisfaction of knowing that you have helped your environment and given a needy child a true treasure.
 
Key Club will have its next meeting on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 7:00 am in the back right corner of the Media Center and at 2:40 in Cafeteria C.
 
FBLA will have a meeting on Wednesday, November 19 @2:40 in room E 113.  All competitive events selection forms and dues must be submitted by Wednesday, Nov. 19
 
Need a Birthday cake?  Want to celebrate your friend's birthday?  Wish you could get that special someone a cake?  Well for your convenience, FBLA will be selling cakes.  All orders must be submit 4 days, before the date you need it. Stop by room E113, Mon - Fri 7:30 a.m.- 10:00 a.m. or see any FBLA members to place your order.
 
Miami Lakes Educational Center will be hosting two Open House meetings for incoming students and their parents on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, and on Tuesday, January 13, 2009.  These meetings will begin at 6:00 p.m., in the auditorium. If you have family members who wish to attend MLEC don’t miss this important meeting!

Students are reminded to come to school each day on time! Students if you are absent, remember that 5 unexcused absences in an annual course, or 3 unexcused absences in a semester course, will result in a no credit (N/C) for the class.  Remember if you are absent you MUST bring a note and receive an admit to excuse your absence. DO NOT GIVE YOUR NOTE TO YOUR HOMEROOM TEACHER. Admits are issued in the Student Services Office prior to the start of school each day and during lunch and after school in the Main Office with Ms. Cheron. Do not be absent unnecessarily.  Students arriving tardy to school must sign in at the Tardy Center in the C Cafeteria. Students with excessive tardies will be required to serve an Administrative Detention.  BE ON TIME!!! AND COME TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY!!!  If you have any questions regarding attendance please speak to Mrs. Forteza in the Student Services Office.
