The PSAT/NMSQT test will be given Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Miami Lakes Educational Center.  Eleventh grade students who take this test are entered into the National Merit Scholarship Corporation's Scholarship Contests.   If you are a Junior and would like to register for this test, see Mr. Moffi in Room E230 or Mrs. Ambas-Viada in E238 by September 29, 2008.  The cost of the test is $13.00.  There are a limited number of fee waivers available for students with free or reduced lunch.  
 
STUDENTS ARE ADVISED YOU MUST WEAR YOUR ID! ADMINISTRATORS WILL BE ON THE LOOK OUT! DETENTIONS WILL BE ISSUED.
 
The Hispanic Heritage Committee is having a second period homeroom door decorating contest. All doors will be judged TODAY, September 22nd, and the winners will receive a pastelito party. The theme for our contest is: "Together We Make MLEC Stronger".
 
Students, we need dancers, singers, writers, etc. for our 7th Annual Hispanic Heritage Show. Sign-in to participate in room F-207. Practices will begin next week after school.
 
The class of 2010 will be distributing class shirts to the first 100 juniors who purchased them. Please remember that class shirts may only be worn on Fridays.
 
Our annual Open House and Resource Fair will take place tomorrow, September 23rd at 6:00 PM.

Spaniard Severo Ochoa graduated from the University of Madrid Medical School in 1929. He was appointed Guest Research Assistant at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Medical Research and Demonstrator and Nuffield Research Assistant at the University of Oxford in the 1930s and 1940s. In 1942 he was appointed Research Associate in Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine and there subsequently became Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and later Professor of Pharmacology and Biochemistry as well as Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry. In 1959, Severo Ochoa was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his work on the synthesis of RNA. He continued research on protein synthesis and replication of RNA viruses until 1985, when he returned to Spain and gave advice to Spanish science policy authorities and scientists. Ochoa was a recipient of U.S. National Medal of Science in 1979. Severo Ochoa died in Madrid on November 1, 1993. This Hispanic Heritage moment was brought to you by the Health Academy.

Students are reminded to come to school each day on time! Students if you are absent, remember that 5 unexcused absences in an annual course, or 3 unexcused absences in a semester course, will result in a no credit (N/C) for the class.  Remember if you are absent you MUST bring a note and receive an admit to excuse your absence. DO NOT GIVE YOUR NOTE TO YOUR HOMEROOM TEACHER. Admits are issued in the Student Services Office prior to the start of school each day and during lunch and after school in the Main Office with Ms. Cheron. Do not be absent unnecessarily. 
Students arriving tardy to school must sign in at the Tardy Center in the C Cafeteria. Students with excessive tardies will be required to serve an Administrative Detention.  BE ON TIME!!! AND COME TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY!!!  If you have any questions regarding attendance please speak to Mrs. Forteza in the Student Services Office.
