Counseling and Placement Services

The
Student Services Department offers guidance counseling, vocational
testing, financial aid, and job placement services. Counselors are
available Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and
Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Registration area, Building 1.
Placement services are offered free of charge to currently enrolled students who possess the demonstrated proficiency level required for employment. Teachers also assist with placement. |

Book Store
The student book store is located in the lobby of Building
3 and sells books and materials for the various courses taught at
Miami Lakes Educational Center. The Center maintains a cash only policy
for the purchase of books and materials.

Bus Information
The Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Transit Agency provides service to Miami Lakes Educational Center. Detailed information can be obtained by contacting an MTA customer representative. Metrobus routes serving Miami Lakes Educational Center include routes 29 and 75.

Child Day Care
Child day care services are available from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for children of employees and currently enrolled students. Enrollment space for the children is limited and registration is required.
Fees and ChargesFees for full-time, and short classes are charged at the established hourly rate based on 15 weeks per trimester or on actual number of hours the class is scheduled to meet. Current fees are listed in the class schedules each trimester, and are subject to change without notice.
Fees are as follows:

A full registration fee is charged from the first day of the trimester through the 21st day. -
Seventy-five percent of the fee is charged from the 22nd through the 49th day. -
Fifty percent of the fee is charged from the 50th day through the end of the trimester. -
Student registering for the short term classes will pay a course fee based upon the duration of the course and the total hours of the class.
REFUND POLICY:
In the event a student elects to withdraw, under normal circumstances, the following refund policies apply:

Before start of class – full refund of tuition and/or non-resident student fees paid. No refund of any special fees paid. - Within 14 calendar days after the start of class – 50% refund of tuition and/or non-resident fees paid. No refund of any special fees paid.
- After 14 calendar days of the start of class – No refunds of tuition and/or any non-resident or special fees paid.

Partial payments cannot be refunded. When the fees are paid in full, consideration may be given for a refund. - Non-resident students are not eligible for partial payments because of Federal Immigration policies.

Special fees and liability
insurance fees are not refundable.
Food/Dining Facilities
The Commercial Foods and Culinary Arts class welcomes all students and school personnel to eat in the cafeteria located in Building C. The cafeteria is operated in conjunction with the Commercial Foods and Culinary Arts program. The program is entirely self-supporting and is not part of Miami-Dade County Schools Lunch Program.
Vending machines are available in the student lounge areas of Buildings 1 and 2.
No food or beverages are allowed in instructional areas.
Housing
Facilities
The Center does not have dormitories or rooms available to house students; however, private rooms and motels are available in the area. Out of town students must make their own arrangements for accommodations.

Health Care
Miami Lakes Educational Center does not have facilities or personnel to render medical assistance. Students with medical conditions which might result in an emergency situation, should notify their instructor and the Student Services Department when they initially enroll.
In an emergency situation, school officials will call Miami-Dade County Metro Fire Rescue. Fire rescue personnel will decide if an ambulance is required. If an ambulance is dispatched, the student requiring medical attention will be responsible for any costs incurred.
First Aid Kits are located throughout the Center.

Identification Card
A valid MLEC identification card must be worn at all times and must be shown to school officials upon request. The ID card must be presented whenever requesting refunds, when using school facilities such as the Media Center and Student Book Store, or when registering for additional classes.
Student ID cards are obtained by paying $5.00 per trimester when registering for classes. Lost cards should be reported to the Registration Office immediately. There is a $5.00 charge for ID card replacement. In the event a student is withdrawn, suspended or expelled from class, the ID card must be returned to the Student Services administrator.

Accident Insurance
Student Accident Insurance is available to all students registered in classes at Miami Lakes Educational Center. Insurance may be purchased directly from the insurance company by the student. Forms for insurance coverage are available from the Registration Department in Building 1.
