Air conditioning & Refrigeration
The air conditioning and Refrigeration program provides students with
the technical knowledge and skills to work on systems that control
temperature, humidity, and air quality of encloses environments. This
high demand technical field prepares students for careers in air
conditioning and heating. Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Technicians
help design, manufacture, install, and maintain climate-control
equipment. Instruction includes a combination of classroom theory and
practical job experiences.
Automotive Collision Repair
The Automotive Collision Repair program offers students technical
knowledge and skills for employment as Collision and Refinish
technicians. The National Automotive Technical Education Foundation (NATEF).
Career opportunities include Auto Body Repair Technician, Automotive
glass and door service Technician, Interior Trim and Upholstery
Technician, Automotive Frame Technician, Front-End Alignment Specialist,
Auto Refinishing Technician, Insurance Estimator/Adjustor, Automotive
Shop Foreman/manager/Owner, and Auto Salvage Distributor. Graduates may
qualify for training in the Toyota T-TEN program in partnership with
Miami-Dade Community College.
Automotive Service Technology
Automotive Service Technology provides successful students a competitive
edge in tomorrow’s job market. Strong math and reading skills are
required, as tomorrow’s technicians need to be able to work on
specialized equipment. Instruction includes a combination of classroom
theory and practice in the areas of electrical and electronic systems,
fuel, exhaust and emission systems, engine repair and performance. This
program is certified by The National Automotive Technical Education
Foundation (NATEF). Graduates may qualify for specialized training in
the Toyota T-TEN program in partnership with Miami-Dade Community
College. Achieving students will have the opportunity to participate in
the Automotive Youth Educational Systems (A-YES) program. This
nationally recognized program provides additional work-based learning
opportunities at local auto dealerships, enriching the school-based
program. During their tenure in the program, A-YES students are paid
employees of the dealership.
Culinary Arts
The Culinary Arts program provides students with the technical skills and
knowledge for employment as cooks, bakers and food preparation workers.
Instruction includes a combination of theory and practical experiences in food
preparation and serving, identification, storage, selection and presentation of
a wide variety of foods. Students will gain experience in the culinary arts
laboratory where food is prepared and served daily. Students are eligible to
join the Skills USA-VICA
Early Childhood Education
The Early Childhood Education program is designed to prepare students to assist
in the responsibility for caring and guiding the development of young children.
Activities provide instruction in the use of manipulative equipment, language
development, creative art, music, science dramatic play, developmentally
appropriate practices, brain research, classroom management and Child
Development Associate (CDA) competencies. Students will observe and gain
experience with young children in the day care center laboratory. Students are
eligible to join the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Association
(FCCLA). This pathway articulates to Miami-Dade Community College.
Electrical Line Service and Repair
(FPL)
The Electrical Lineworker program is designed to prepare the student to
join the workforce as a safe and knowledgeable apprentice ready to serve
the electric power industry. Students are given extensive hands-on
experience building power lines. Both overhead and underground
techniques are presented and practiced. Instruction includes classroom
and outdoor hands-on activities related to overhead and underground
lines. Campus facilities for instruction include a large outdoor
training field which features pole climbing, line construction,
bucket-truck operations, and the use of powerline construction trucks
for erecting power lines. The Florida Power and Light Apprenticeship
Program requires completion of the 600 hour curriculum framework for
Electrical Like Service and Repair. The first year of the two-year
Apprenticeship Program is comprised of 4 credits earned during both 11th
and 12th grades. After graduation, qualified students will continue with
FP&L for the second year of the two year Apprenticeship Program for
possible employment as a Line Service Technician. A summer school
component is included in the FP&L Apprenticeship Program.
Financial Services
The Financial Services program is for students interested in associated careers
with various aspects of business and finance. Areas of study include: banking
operations, financial planning, securities and investments, real estate,
consumer credit, mortgage lending and principles of entrepreneurship. Students
are eligible to join DECA, Distributive Education Clubs of America.
International Business & Marketing
The International Business and Marketing program is designed to prepare students
for a career in international trade. The course work promotes a basic
understanding of international marketing related to the import and export
process. Students learn how to analyze data for developing markets, gain
knowledge in the import and export documentation process and study the overall
trade process. Students are eligible to join DECA, Distributive Education Club
of America.
Major Appliance & Refrigeration Technology
The career pathway for Major Appliance and Refrigeration Technology
provides students with technical knowledge and skills to work with a
variety of appliances used in homes and business establishments.
Students should have strong skills in the areas of math and science, as
the students must build a strong foundation based on the principles of
electronics and mechanics. Major Appliance Service Technicians are
employed at service centers, appliance dealerships and manufactures are
offered the opportunity to be self-employed. Industry partners, such as
Maytag Corp., heavily support this program.
